June 2009

Ladies,

What a group!  We continue to have great turnouts and fun times.  There is nothing like a group of women getting together to share something in common like golf and making lasting friendships.  Friendships that I am going to really, really miss for a few months!

Without dreams where would we be?  Gene and I purchased an RV a while ago and our dream was to retire someday and see this beautiful country from our home on wheels.  I had come to terms with the idea that it probably wasn’t going to happen but Gene sold his company and retired as of June 2! Therefore, not wanting him to get lonely in this new phase of life, I am retiring at the end of June to join him.  Our plans are kind of sketchy at this point, but I think we’ll be heading to Branson, MO with Polly and Ken Webb immediately after I complete my work notice.  After that, we’ll follow our wonder lust to whatever port it takes us.  After all I am the Goddess Traveling Lady Golfer!  Of course the number of places we go and the golf courses we play will depend on all those early bird specials and senior discounts I’ve been hearing about all these years!  It’s time to find out if they are for real.

MLGA will need a replacement for the remainder of my term as President, which runs through the 2010 season.  If you have an interest, please let me know.  The main thing I do is make sure our tee times are scheduled with Mesquite and write a little blurb for the newsletter once a month.   I’m sure Margi and Gerry will be willing to help out with scheduling tee times when needed, right gals?  Please think about this opportunity to volunteer your services.  I know there is someone out there that has the desire to become more involved with this fantastic group!

I am really going to miss you ladies but I will return!  Who knows, we may find retirement and being together 24/7 more than we can handle and return in 2 weeks!

TX/OK Shootout Report

I hereby declare our TX/OK Shootout a success!  We had 17 ladies playing at Winstar on Saturday and 14 played at Turtle Hill on Sunday. Thank you ladies for a great weekend!  I would also like to thank Cherie Luckett for having the forethought to bring her portable poker table with her.  (Something makes me think it probably stays in her trunk right next to her golf clubs.)  We set it up in the conference room at the hotel and being the great teacher she is, Cherie taught us to play Texas Hold ‘Em.  What fun and we didn’t loose a penny!  How about it ladies that went to the Casino, do you think you had more fun than we did?   Bet you lost more money than we did…

Turtle Hill was enjoyable and I was particularly happy with my score but THE BUGS, THE BUGS! We certainly could have done without them but we had fun in spite of the little nuisances.  I didn’t go prepared for mountain climbing but everybody knows how I hate to lose a ball!  I was determined that ball resting down at the bottom of that hill, almost to the highway, had to be reclaimed!  Reclaiming it and getting it up to the green went just fine.  What I didn’t consider was if one goes down the mountain (well, when you are looking straight up to the green it certainly looks like a mountain), one must hike back up!  After a brief rest on the edge of the green and we decided I wasn’t actually having a heart attack, play continued.

We made the traditional stop at the Center Restaurant and Tavern and enjoyed a wonderful meal and some great desserts.  Judy Fries’ husband Bill, brave man that he is, joined the ladies for dinner after a motorcycle ride up to Muenster.

Thank you all for participating and I am already looking forward to next year!

Betty
